Using a sizing kit is the easiest, simplest and most accurate way to measure your nails. It eliminates the need for guesswork and reduces the chances of inaccurate sizing, which can be common with other methods of nail measurement techniques.
Yes, it's an additional expense BUT it's worth it. A sizing kit will help make sure that your press-on nails fit perfectly, comfortably and look the most natural. Plus, you can keep the kit forever and share it with friends and family, making it a practical and cost-effective choice.
Here's a step-by-step guide on how to measure your nails using the Talaskye sizing kit.
What you'll need:
Clean, product-free and dry nails (this includes clear nail polish)
Gentle pressure (to simulate applying the press-on nail)
1. Choose your press on sizing kit in the shape and length of your choice
Depending on the nail shape and length you prefer, your sizing kit will include between 10-15 nails in different sizes, each clearly marked with their respective sizes.
2. Start with clean, product-free nails
Make sure your natural nails are clean and free from any products like gel, acrylic, regular nail polish, residue and any other nail enhancements. This is essential to get accurate measurements.
3. Measure each nail individually
Begin by measuring each nail individually. It's important to remember that every one of your natural nails may have slightly different dimensions (this is more common than you think!).
Start with one hand and move on to the other, taking your time to measure each and every one of all of your nails.
4. Measure sidewall to sidewall
Place each press-on nail onto your natural nail, making sure it covers your entire nail bed sidewall to side wall.
5. Apply slight pressure
Apply slight pressure, as if you were actually applying the press-on nail. This simulates the way the press-on nail will sit on your natural nail.
6. Check for fit
If the press-on nail:
Pinches your natural nail bed, it's too small. You should be able to apply the pressure on it without any discomfort. This will cause the press-on nail pop off prematurely.
Overlaps the sidewall and extends onto your skin, it's too big. It should fit your natural nail snugly, without touching the skin on your finger. If it does, this will cause the press-on nail to lift and pop off prematurely.
Tip: If you're in between sizes, it's better to size up. You can then file the press-on nail down for a precise fit.
7. Record your sizes
As you determine the right size for each of your natural nails, make a note of the corresponding sizes from the sizing kit. You'll need this before placing an order with Talaskye.
You can do so like this:
Left hand | Right hand |
Thumb - 2 | Thumb - 2 |
Pointer - 6 | Pointer - 7 |
Middle - 4 | Middle - 3 |
Ring - 5 | Ring - 5 |
Pinky - 8 | Pinky - 8 |
Additional tips
Remember to size up if you're in between sizes. You can always file down the press-on nail to fit your natural nail but you can't add material.
You can always file and shape the press-on nail to precision so that it sits flush against your natural nail and cuticle shape.
Be mindful that sizes will vary depending on the nail shape. For instance, your thumb might be a size 2 in an almond medium shape, but a size 1 in a coffin shape. So it's important to get a sizing kit for each nail shape you decide to wear.
